Minerva and Dumfries and Galloway College
Two learning centres in Dumfries and Galloway have been honoured as examples of best practice by other Scottish learning centres.
Minerva People Limited and Dumfries and Galloway College were among the top learning centres selected at Learndirect Scotland’s 2007 annual conference.
Minerva received a certificate for their work in maximising marketing resources from Brian Lister of the Scottish Further Education Unit. Brian also presented a certificate to the College for their work in developing staff.
The awards ceremony came at the end of the conference, which was addressed by deputy minister for enterprise and lifelong learning Allan Wilson and hosted by broadcaster Angus Simpson.
Minerva People was chosen as one of the best examples of centres that most imaginatively and effectively market their services to learners and develop partnerships with other organisations.
Dumfries and Galloway College’s learning centre was chosen as one of the best examples of centres that support their own staff and foster a learning culture to help staff to enhance their knowledge and develop their potential.
Learndirect Scotland chief executive, Damien Yeates said “the award winners show how Learndirect Scotland’s branded learning centre network is reaching out to people to help them to get a job, keep a job, find a better job, manage a career or have a better life.
He said: “To receive an accolade and to have your work recognised is always encouraging, but I think when it is given by your industry colleagues, it is especially welcome.”
